lyrics

Maria decoquit panem salvificum
In ventris clibano per ignem misticum
Panem dulcissimum set tamen modicum
Quo totum reficit conventum celicum

Hic panis coquitur celesti facula
Factus de virginis pura farinula
Nec panem ustulat comburens flammula
Nec pastam polluit polluta pinsula

Inmundi clibanus igne non caluit
Nec pastam sordidus contactas polluit
Set dei digitus farina miscuit
Et quod confectum est hic pastor pinsuit

Nostra panifica panem distribuit
Que zima veteri nunquam coacuit
Hoc pane pastus est quicumque voluit
Solus ieiunus est qui pastum renuit

Hunc panem frangimus et tamen fraccio
Eius qui frangitur non est particio
Hunc panem sumimus et tamen sumpcio
Eius qui sumitur non est consumpcio

Per panes alios fame depellitur
Set tamen aspera sitis non tollitur
Set quisque virginis pane reficitur
Nec famem anxiam nec sitim patitur

Celestes etenim cives esuriunt
Set in esurie penam non senciunt
Nam panem commedunt et panem cupiunt
Ingenti gaudio bibunt et siciunt

Felix convivium felix refeccio
In qua virgineus panis est pastio
Quo nos reficiat suo convivio
Qui solus saciat sine fastidio

Mary Bakes the Bread of Salvation

Mary bakes the bread of salvation
In the oven of her womb by mystic fire
A bread most sweet and yet still so small
By which the entire heavenly assembly is restored

This bread is baked by a celestial torch
And is made from the virgin’s pure flour
The loaf is neither scorched nor charred by the refined flame
Nor is the dough defiled by a dirty kneading trough

It is no impure oven which is heated by the fire
Nor is the dough befouled by the touch of unclean hands
But it is the finger of God which stirs the flour
The protector milled what has now been made

Our baker shares out the bread
Which was never soured by the old unleavened bread
This bread is fed to whomsoever desires it
Only he who has refused to eat what he has been fed goes hungry

We break this bread and yet
He who is broken is not divided up
We take this bread and yet
He who is taken is not used up by the taking

By other breads is hunger repelled
But severe thirst is not quenched
But for anyone renewed by the virgin’s bread
Neither anguished hunger nor thirst will endure

Indeed the heavenly citizens long to eat
But in their hunger feel no pain
For they eat the bread and long for it
With boundless joy they drink and are thirsty

Happy feast, happy refreshment
In which the virginal bread is eaten
And they are restored at his banquet
By him who alone nourishes without reluctance
